Are You Inadvertently Sabotaging Your Diet Plan?

By James Williams

We all understand that the best foods to eat when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These would be the foods that give us all protein and energy. They keep the body nutritionally healthy with minimal calories while we work hard to burn off our fat at the gym. Did you know however that a few of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They might be even adding calories to your body! Here are several foods that you may be having which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

Sports Drinks may not be helping you whatsoever. You've likely been thinking that the sports drink is the proper way to help your body feel much better after a workout. Most doctors recognize, however, that if your exercise session is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks could completely challenge your diet program because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Try having some chocolate milk as an alternative. Your body uses the sugar in the chocolate for muscle repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Skip that protein shakes. Lots of people believe that drinking a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. When you're eating an normally healthy diet, however, a protein shake merely sends you into protein overdose. Contrary to popular thinking, protein isn't going to get kept as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This shows that when you have taken in a lot of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't really healthy at all. It's typically believed that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread along with lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a massive amount preservatives and will provide you with about a third of your suggested sodium consumption for the day. This will probably be particularly dangerous if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of getting the pre-packaged stuff, you ought to instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Yes you will spend more money for these selections but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a lot of things that we assume will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, for example is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask your medical professional what the best ways for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you are careful about what exactly you eat and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
